Magnetovore has been given a place in the HotHouse this summer:
Lab/office space in downtown SLO
The HotHouse is located in downtown San Luis Obispo, a block away from the craft store, some food places, and the old mission. The program is housed in an abandoned 5000 sq ft car dealership with a high wooden ceiling.
The idea behind the HotHouse is to bring 8 promising student startups under one roof for the summer to accelerate the companies to the next stage of success. And we are not just given space to build our next prototypes and write up fresh business plans. We are given a huge network of mentors, from intellectual property (IP) attorneys to serial entrepreneurs, to tap into.
In the first week of the program, two or three mentors presented to us different parts of starting a business, protecting IP, building teams, etc. Parts of it was review to different people, but now every team is on the same level.
Organizing electrical parts
We’ve also spent this week getting Magnetovore and the lab space all organized. There is a lot of work that needs to get done, but we have the resources to get it done. In the next few weeks, we are going to finalize the design of the Magnetic Cello. We are also tracking down manufacturers who can help us build parts of the cello, such as the control panel, coil housing, and wooden body.
I have to write an executive summary by tomorrow and my theremin needs playing. But now that school is over, I’ll be able to blog a bit more and keep you up to date with our progress. We are very lucky to have this opportunity, and there will be a lot to write about this summer.
